DIY Outdoor Day Bed Reveal!!

Hi and welcome!!
Our daybed has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world - who'd have thought?! - and is currently up for 'Best DIY Reading Nook' on along with some other fantastic DIY reading nooks. It's only open to U.S residents and voters of the winning nook are in with a chance to win fantastic prizes for yourself!
All the details and voting are right here.
Voting opens July 15 and closes July 29. Get voting! X

Just after New Year I mentioned our half-finished day bed. A project we got started on, along with a few others, while the energy levels were high!!

We're so excited to have it finished!!!

I know, I know...stripes. Again.
I've shocked you haven't I?

We just love it!! It's so comfy, you instantly relax when you lie on it!
I think it's fair to say we're quite proud of ourselves!!

Remember this guy?!
Monkey magic...'ah Pigsy' & Tripitaka!! Can't remember the other guy's name.
Tony found this cushion while we were on holidays and had to have it! First time he's ever bought homewares!!:)

I have also done a tutorial on how we built and upholstered this, coming tomorrow in 2 parts.

Part One - The build
Part Two - The upholstery ('s removable!!)

So there you have it! Awkward corner on the deck...resolved.
Come back tomorrow and see how we did it, could you use a day bed at your place?

I highly recommend them!!

*Our daybed has been featured a bit around the blogoshphere, so HUGE thanks to the following awesome blogs!!!

Love this so much! One question, is that part of your deck covered? If not, what do you do about rain? I know your fabric is removable but wouldn't your foam get soggy?

Courtney said...

Good question Cate, I probably didn't mention that yes, it is all covered. When we built on our extension we had the roof line continue out over the deck. The daybed is in far enough that it doesn't get wet.
if it was prone to the elements more, I'd have to bring the mattress part inside when rain was forecast or cover with a tarp over winter.
We're lucky we don't get too much sideways rain here :)

I love this! I also love the color of your house! I have been looking for a color to paint ours and yours is just like I want the color of our house. Do you happen to remember what brand of paint and the color? Thank you! Karen

Courtney said...

Thanks Karen!! I'd be happy to let you know paint color via email - my email address is - Not sure where you are in the world, I'm in Australia so the paint is from an Australian company which is only available here, I think! :)

When I read the title of this post and then scrolled down to the photo, the first thing I saw was the "monkey." Maybe I'm being sensitive because I just posted some links about white privilege and racism on my FB, but I can't believe I'm the only one who will notice this. Thanks,

I apologize Diana if you feel offended by my Monkey cushion, it was not my intention.
Monkey Magic was a popular TV show that I grew up watching. Perhaps you are not familiar with the series? Monkey was the main character and that was his name - Monkey Magic.
He was courageous and an extremely loyal friend - things I try to emulate in my own life.
Thanks for sharing.

I love this idea, just a question what is the black metal looking screen thing to the right of the picture. My mom has a huge patio with two large sliding doors and I didnt know if that was a sliding door also.
Love the patterns and colors
